The recruitment of international students under Chinese Government Scholarship Programme in 2002 is about to begin. According to the plan of the Ministry of Education of China, over 2,300 students from about 160 countries will be accepted to study in China under Chinese Government Scholarship Programme in the academic year of 2002/2003. China Scholarship Council (CSC) has sent the detailed programme to the Chinese diplomatic missions in other countries, and foreign embassies in China, as well as the relevant education organizations and Chinese institutions. The programme includes scholarship provided in accordance with bilateral agreements or arrangements, unilateral scholarship schemes, and special scholarships provided to about 20 overseas institutions and organizations. The international students recruited will be placed in more than 80 institutions in China.
In accordance with the relevant regulations and measures of the Ministry of Education of China, CSC will give priority to the following aspects in year 2002 so as to make effective use of Chinese Government Scholarship Programme and make the studies of the international students fruitful:
-- attaching importance to the overall academic calibre of the applicants with a view to further improving the quality of recruited international students;
-- emphasis on recruiting more international students who intend to purses higher degree studies in China;
-- making every endeavour to engage more institutions which provide courses and specialties in English.
To ensure a smooth recruitment process, CSC has re-compiled all the materials, including Guide to Study in China under Chinese Government Scholarship Programme, Directory of the Chinese Institutions Admitting International Students under Chinese Government Scholarship Programme, Chinese Institutions Admitting International Students, and seven Application Forms in new edition. All the above materials will be available at the official website of CSC. CSC has established the Code of Practice for the Recruitment of International Students to improve the recruitment work of international students in Chinese institutions, and the staff engaged in the recruitment in Chinese institutions will undertake a training in March this year.
We welcome young people, teachers and scholars from all over the world to apply for Chinese Government Scholarships and to undertake studies and research in China.
