China Scholarship Council has completed the recruitment of international students under the Chinese Government Scholarship Programme (CGSP) for 2001. The process started in mid-April and more than 2100 students and scholars from over 140 countries have been accepted, 120 more than that of the last year. 19% of the recruited students and scholars this year are undergraduates, 23% are postgraduates and the rest are non-degree study fellows. Their majors cover 10 subject areas with 43% in liberal arts and 17% in engineering. 5% of the students and scholars are taking English-medium courses. These students are distributed in 79 higher education institutions in 19 municipalities, provinces and autonomous regions in China. Both Beijing Language and Culture University and Peking University enrolled more than 100 students. Fudan University, Beijing Normal University, Nanjing University, Shanghai University, Wuhan University, Zhejiang University, Tsinghua University, Tongji University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology admitted more than 50 each.
