This booklet gives an introduction of the 88 Chinese institutions of high education, approved by the Ministry of Education of China, to accept international students to study in China under Chinese Government Scholarship Programme. They are staffed with high-qualified research and teaching personnel, equipped with excellent scientific research facilities, provided with standardized management system and conditioned with sound learning situation. The specialties of these institutions cover a wide range such as liberal arts, science, technology, agronomy, medicine, history, philosophy, economy, management, jurisprudence and education which represent the highest level of higher education in China.

Those who apply to study in China under Chinese Government Scholarship Programme shall choose 3 preferences from these 88 institutions. China Scholarship Council will make final arrangement according to the level of the applicants and also on the basis of these 3 preferences. About the specialties and majors, please refer to those listed in this book.

For those who want to study in one of these 88 institutions of high education as self-financed students, they can apply to the China Scholarship Council through their diplomatic missions in China or the Chinese diplomatic missions in their home countries, or apply to these institutions of high education directly.

Qualifications of the Applicants:
1. Applicants must be of non-Chinese nationality and be healthy.
2. The educational background and age limit:
a. Undergraduate applicants must finish senior high school and be under the age of 25.
b. Master’s applicants must finish bachelor’s study and be generally under the age of 35.
c. Doctoral applicants must finish master’s study and be generally under the age of 40.
d. Chinese Language Students must finish senior high school and be under the age of 40.
e. General scholars must finish their sophomore’s study and be under the age of 45.
f. Senior scholars must obtain master’s degree or hold academic tittles of vice professor or higher and be under the age of 50.

Language Used in Teaching:
The Chinese institutions of higher education normally use Chinese as the teaching language. Applicants with no command of Chinese are normally required to take Chinese language courses for 1-2 years before pursuing their major studies. In some institutions, some study courses and postgraduate courses can be conducted in English while the final teaching language will be decided by the university (the majors marked with “*”listed in this booklet can be taught in English).

Submission of Application Materials (in Chinese or English):
1. Qualified applicants shall fill out the relevant application forms for international students (one original copy, one photocopy).
2. Submission of the following materials
a. highest diploma (notarized photocopy)
b. transcripts (notarized photocopy)
c. Foreigner Physical Examination Form (photocopy)
d. master’s, doctor’s candidates and senior scholar candidates must submit two letters of recommendation.
e. applicants for music or fine arts shall submit one cassette of recorded audio materials of art work or six colour photographs of works (including two sketches and two colour paintings).
